Information About The Democratic Club of Southwest

Riverside County

The Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County (DCSRC) strives to maintain Democratic values such as freedom, equality, justice, and opportunity in our local area. The club does this through its efforts to educate the public on current Democratic issues, to promote interaction with other Democratic organizations, to add members to the club, to assist local Democratic candidates, and to offer some services to the local community. To fulfill these worthwhile goals, the Democratic Club needs support.

Every Democrat needs to step forward and assist the local club by becoming a dues-paying member. Dues are $15 per year for individuals ($25 for families) and include a year's subscription to the Democratic Club's monthly newsletter,  The Democratic Times. Club members find the newsletter both enjoyable and informative.

The Democratic Club holds meetings once a month and usually features a guest speaker, a Democratic candidate, or a hot topic or issue for discussion. The meetings last about an hour and a half. Time for refreshments and for engaging in social conversation follows. Current club members want to assure you that you will enjoy the meetings and the people who attend them.

The Democratic Club usually meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 P.M.  At the present time meetings will be held at the B'Nai Chaim Synagogue, located at 29500 Via Princessa East in Murrieta, CA. For further details about any Democratic Club meeting, or to check on location, please call Bonita Connoley at (951) 600-0999

The members of the local Democratic Club invite you to attend a meeting, to become a member, and to get involved on one of its committees.  A number of the club's committees would welcome your help.  These include the following:

  • community outreach

  • membership

  • fund raising

  • programs and issues

  • voter registration

  • education

  • communications

  • candidate recruitment

Other committees form from time to time.  To be successful, the club needs people with various talents.  Everyone has some talent or skill that he or she can contribute, and all help is appreciated..

During the year the Democratic Club tries to hold several fund-raisers and various special events.  Possible fund-raisers include a Cocktail Party, a Springtime Barbecue and a Summer Evening Out.  The club also provides opportunities for members to listen to and to question local candidates who are running for office.  Other events may be planned from time to time when there is an occasion to celebrate, a hot issue to discuss, or a well informed speaker to hear.

During the five or six months before an election, the club staffs a rented campaign headquarters. Once the headquarters open, members volunteer to help prepare, mailings, make telephone calls to remind people to vote, provide registration forms, and assist local candidates. While these tasks seem simple, they are essential in keeping the views and the goals of the Democratic Party in the minds of the voters. Because the tasks are easy, each club member can contribute to the important work that the club does.

We will have solid Democratic candidates in 2005-2006 election cycle.  They will be running for positions in the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Congress, and both the California Assembly and the State Senate. To preserve Democratic values so essential to the American way of life, these people need to be elected. To stop the Republican Party's swing to the far right, ordinary Democrats need to get involved and stay involved until all the votes are counted.

Anyone who has worked for a living understands that the GOP favors the wealthy and squeezes more taxes out of the middleclass and the poor. Anyone who cares about a living wage, education, health care and Social Security realizes that the House and Senate must be returned to the control of Democrats. You can help make that happen as members of the DCSRC.
